South Dakota looking at eliminating the state’s 4.5% tax on food. As a member of the SD House Taxation Committee, we recently passed HB 1075 on to the House Committee on Appropriations with a “Do Pass” recommendation that would eliminate the state’s 4.5% tax on food sales. We also moved through for consideration HB 1137 which would lower the state tax from 4.5% to 4%. There are also some other sales/use tax reduction bills still being considered along with a property tax reduction bill so keep an eye out for changes that I hope we can get through to lower your taxes because that is what I went to Pierre to do.
